Lo Siento

My sincerest apologies but it appears that Internet in an Ecuadorian jungle is hard to come by.... who would have thought it!!!!!

So it looks like this little project may have to have go through a little post trip analysis..... or maybe just a load of pictures on facebook..... that´s all anyone ever uses the Internet for anyway.....

Needless to say I am having a wild time, the level of biodiversity is immense (I have seen an average of 5 new species everyday I have been here!) and Ecuador on the whole is rather a nice place to be. We are currently in BaƱos (Bath) with a few of the volnteers from La Hesperia and it is a rocking little place!

After a small amount of partying tonight I shall be digging into my dissertation project based on aquatic macroinvertebrates (for anyone that interested) over the next 2 weeks.

So once again I must apologise for the lack of blogs, but it can´t be helped.

See you in 3 weeks

The Plan

I should possibly inform of just what the trip entails.

Essentially I have volunteered to save the the South American rain forest single handedly, it's no mean feat but I've heard that there are some pretty bad wrongdoings going on around them parts and feel that it is my duty to do what I can to help those poor innocent and not to mention helpless lightning toothed viper slugs.

Ok maybe not. I have actually signed up for this little beauty:

Whilst it will inevitably be an amazing experience it will also hopefully serve as an excellent foundation for a dissertation that needs to be carried out next academic year. As a result I am unsure of what this blog will become, either a very detailed and precise account of cloudforest biodiversity, or a worthless, meandering jumble of words that attempt to unsuccessfully portray a potentially very exciting project.... Probably the latter. Previously I was able to use pictures to make up for any poor descriptive/vocabulary problems on my part but that could prove challenging this time round as I do not have a laptop.

Needless to say I will endeavour to stick pictures up for your (and my) benefit. Failing that I will try and post regularly but being stuck in a remote part of Ecuadorian jungle could have it's setbacks.

Next stop Quito, Ecuador... Ding Ding!!! (That's a bit onomatopoeia there by the way........... it's for a bus...... even though we are going by plane......Right that's enough blogging for one day good grief is that the time, I have a plane to catch)

Day 1

Travelling for a day has it's good points and bad points, it's highs and lows, its ebbs and flows, peaks and troughs and hairy fairies and balding spiders...

After a fairly smooth flight to New York we landed to find a delayed flight awaiting us which proceeded to disrupt the rest of our connections. At first we were nervous, tired and worried that we wouldn't make it to our hostel in time. But eventually we soon came round to the idea being put up in a fairly luxurious (at least more so than a hostel) and given meal vouchers based in Miami.

Refreshed and recouped we are now ready to continue our journey South West to Ecuador land of milk and honey, Miami has just been through tropical storm Bonnie and hopefully we will make it to our... final destination mwahahahahaha!!!!!!

Return of the Tanuki!!!!

Yes you heard that right, it's back, the most stupendous blog focussing on the trials and tribulations of a 21 year olds' life in Japan and New Zealand from 2007 to 2008 is back but with a brand new look, a more streamlined focus and a (slightly) less intoxicated author.

Its almost like your favourite tv show has returned... but better!!!, or your best friend Goldy the Goldfish has returned from the heavenly toilet... but better!!!, or something else equally cherished and loved has returned from a dark mysterious place... but better!!!!!

So roll on up for the greatest show on earth... (based on Ecudorial insights from a 25 year old male in a 5 week period during 2010)

Disclaimer: 'Adventures of a Tanuki' may not actually appear better than previous blogs, The author may not be slightly less toxicated than before and also reserves the right to turn 'Goldy the Goldfish' into an animated series with possible real time film follow up. Terms and conditions apply.
