Happy Halloween!!!
Sorry Journal I have been having so much fun in the past 10 days I forgot to write things.
Driving around Taupo and the surrounding area has been very enjoyable, the scenery is often breathtaking and having about 20 times less cars on the road (not to mention traffic lights) than Japan is liberating.
There you go finally one thing that is better than Japan. I realise I didn’t really give my Japan travels a real conclusion and to be honest I am still struggling to put it into words. But don’t worry I am working up to it.
Last Saturday Raphael and myself went to Tauranga and MT. Maunganui in the ‘Bay of Plenty’ region. The town of Tauranga was very fresh and exciting and the beach near MT. Maunganui was almost idyllic except the weather was overcast and chilly so there was not much going on. Still a worthwhile trip none the less. We also passed through Rotorua nick named ‘the sulphur city’ it has a fairly intoxicating eggy whiff to it due to the town being situated on top of an underground sulphur lake.
I didn’t realise New Zealand was still so volcanically active, everywhere you go there are clouds of steam bursting up from the ground or being harnessed for power in giant pipes. On the nursery there is a health and safety warning for gas pockets that can cause nausea and feinting but apparently it cannot rise above a meter… so I’m told.
In any case everything is going well, tonight Myself, Raphael, Richard and his daughter Jessica spent a pleasant evening in an English pub entitled “Jolly Good Fellows” with the exotic slogan “where the bacon meets the butty”
Just when I had almost forgotten about western civilisation.
