Busy - ISOGASII

Not a lot to report on I am afraid. Except for the fact that I am working on a few "projects" (which is why the old blog has been a bit sparce lately). That is I am working on them when I can. Work is extremely busy with starting times at 5 in the morning this week. On top of that there are my "Extra cirriculum" activities which run as follows:

Monday - Tabletennis
Tuesday - Karate
Wednesday - English class
Thursday - Soccer
Friday - Out on the town
Saturday - Calligraphy
Sunday - Collapse in a heap!

I can't really appreciate all these things at the moment but I am starting to come round to the fact that they really help in meeting people, advancing my Japanese and really getting the most out of my time here. Squeezing every last drop of Japanesey goodness out of this trip.

Also I was given a football shirt which was supercool!!!

Other things to mention are:

Rainy season has begun here, It will rain for 50 days and on the days it doesn't rain it will be extremely humid. More on this aspect of Japan later.

There have been a few new editions to the site including:

  • A maps section - using incredible cutting edge technology I have been able to pinpoint my exact location and have added a few reference points along the way.

  • A new mp3 player - for those that read with their speakers turned off, turn them on!!! The song changes regularly and is usually a reflection of my experiences or relevent in some other way. Or don't it's a free country.

  • And a new song on Myspace (if you are that interested) penned by the extremely talent Mr Bambling and created in a very short space of time (because sometimes that is just the best way) by the two of us.

Finally Happy Birthday to young Thomas and young Uncle Rupert and best wishes to the newly married couple Pete and Hara!

I think that is all - I will leave you with this to amuse yourselves whilst you wait for a decent blogpost:

I am still obsessed with these things!!!

Goodnight

Hi Matthew,
Like the crazy contraptions video. The jingle drives me around the twist. What are they saying?
The map project I love. Keep it up (can you change the colour of the route to JA, yellow doesn't show up that well? Sorry).
How did you create the tune with Chris? You don't have any music kit there do you?
So many questions, and from the look of your "EC" activities, so little time.
You appear to be having a great time and enjoying it so much. I'm very proud of you.

You give me too much credit. The song is all yours - a very fine piece of work!
Speak to you later
Chris

Those crazy things are CRAZY! When are you gonna make and film your own Matthew?

From the music I can't help but think perhaps this was intended for childrens TV? You big kid!

As regards the Earthquakes do the Japanese use the Richter or the Mercalli scale?
Just remember in an Earthquake if you are inside then get under a desk or something solid and stay there, it'll protect you from flying glass and other such fun aspects of collapsing buildings.
If you're outside then get into the open and stay away from powerlines and buildings (and aubergines those things can be lethal at speed)
If you're driving then stop where its safe to do so ie not under powerlines, lamp posts, in a overpass, or under a bridge, you get the idea.
In or around mountains watch out for falling rock and get some cover.
In crowded places don't panic, thats a bad, bad idea, just stay calm.
I've been reading up on Earthquakes and they are pretty fascinating, all the Islands of Japan are pretty susceptible to Seismic activity.
Its a piece of Continental crust on the eastern edge of the Asiatic Tectonic plate and it meets the Pacific plate which is moving toward it a 10cm a year, the process of subduction ie the oceanic plate moving underneath the Continental plate causes a mass of tremors which have resulted in some pretty nasty Quakes, Tokyo in 1923 and Kobe in 1995 being an 8.2 and a 7.5 respectively.
So stay safe buddy.

By the way your current profile tune is one of the most annoying pieces of music I have ever heard congratulations because you have even heard the latest release from that W****R Pablo Nutini, and boy that is annoying!

Father - The song was created before I left (quite a while before I left actually)

J - The contraptions are from a Japanese company and the tune at the end is a Jingle. There are tons of little annoying jingles like that in Japan and they ussually involve some "crazy" person shaking their head from side to side as they sing it.

Scotty - Thanks for the earthquake info I am glad you liked the song. It sounds like a challenge to try and find an even more annoying song (one which I think I can easily beat). Incidently the earthquake tally is now up to 4!!!

and incidentally the theme to BA adverts as well.
This is from Madame Butterfly is it not?
