Up In Them There Mountains

Monday - Day Off - Yasume.

I drove up to the very tippity-top of the mountain on Monday and I was greeted by a scenic lake with a shrine Island in the middle.

However the highlight of the trip was the route back down. It was windier than the windiest thing you can think of x 3 and very narrow!!! It was fairly windy on the way up but not as windy as the way down. I was trying to work out a way to illustrate just how windy the road was (without just using the word windy a lot) and suddenly hit upon this idea:

The road winded like that for about 50 minutes it eally was just like a rollercoaster (although I think that video still doesn't do it justice). In any case it's a good thing the camera doesn't have a microphone or you would have heard my little girly screams of glee!!!!

I have a little plan in my head to try and go up there (but more importantly down there) on a mountain bike. I think I could get all the way home without having to pedal once. All I need is a mountain bike, some protective gear, a lift up the hill and balls of steel!

I realise that the spelling of wind (in it's various forms here) may be incorrect but I'm sure you know what I mean. Windy (curvy, twisting, meandering).

Tuesday - Workday - Up the mountain again!

Otosan (Mr Sakaki) was kind enough to allow us some time off work and took us for a hike in the mountains the very next day. When I say took us for a hike, I actually mean drop us off at the bottom of the mountain and persuaded us to trek the 45 minute track whilst he drove to the top to meet us.

Another shrine, and a 50 meter waterfall were the key features but I was just happy to be walking along a fairly precarious path surrounded by a hundred different shades of green, blue sky, and fantastic glimpses of the other nearby mountains in a remote location.

There was also a cave that was home to 3 of the scariest mannequins I have ever laid eyes on. I was immediatly reminded of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (The old, good one) and became very unerved as I stood with my back to them for the picture. I still have this terrible feeling one may have followed us home. Hopefully it was the one without arms!!!

Finally we stopped off at another shrine, by far the most spiritual and beautiful I have come across so far. It was a shinto shrine built due to a historic outbreak of measles that killed many children. You pray at this shrine if you want a strong healthy baby. So I did...

Food for the soul - 50 mins is a long time to concentrate on getting down a mountain, I am wondering whether the brake pads now need checking. Mountain biking down sounds fun but do you want to keep your teeth?
I don't think you ever mentioned it -how old are Drury and Kim and are they saving to build their house?

Wow, Matt, that's some beautiful scenery there. I'm glad you decided to take plenty of pictures - being able to see what you're describing makes things a lot easier. You've done a great job with the blog so far, so keep us posted!

What was the deal with those wax-works??! I hope you bought the one without arms a drink first before having your wicked way with it in the cold lonely night....

Nice photography :-)
