Rub-a-dub-dub thanks for the Grub!

I have now been here for 4 weeks and that means I have eaten appoximately 50 bowls of rice (2 bowls a day without fail!). As a celebration of this feat I have composed a few lists about food:

Matts Favourate foods (so far):

1. Weiner - Japanese produced (from Mr Sakakis swine farmer friend) Delicious. Like frankfurters but they taste so much more natural and organic!
2. Fried Auberbine - Yes it's true. I have learnt to love the way of the purple.
3. Chinese Parcels - Little wonderful parcels of delightful mushed up stuff.
4. Noodles - They have come in various different shapes, sizes and flavours. All have been very good
5. Rice cake thing - I should really find the names of these things at some point, maybe I will come back and update it later.

Matts worst foods (so far):

1. Pigs Intestines - Tastes like chewy grisly tubes that have had pigs half digested food passed through them!
2. Tiny Fish - Dry inch long whole fish with eyes and all!
3. Dried Squid Strips - Tastes like dried crusty feet!
4. Bamboo Shoots - Giant chunks of the stuff, I am not a panda!
5. Octopus tentacles (with suckers) - actually not bad once you get past the "gross factor".

Matts most missed food:

1. Heinz Baked beans
2. A good old bally British Roast dinner.
3. Cheese (there is no cheese in Japan) not that I've seen anyway!
4. Sun Pat Peanut butter - Japanese peanut butter is a surreal mind bending experience
5. Curry

You say you're not a panda now. Who knows what you might turn into if you eat too much bamboo.

By the way, you'd better keep the karaoke singing on the island. If it comes back.....

Cheese and onion crisps possibly taste like dried crusty feet if you think about it! I recently met someone and when his work group were asked for volunteers to serve in Japan no-one took up the call -when I asked why, he said it was because of the food! How do you FEEL on your new diet? I am wondering whether you have to find any meals for yourself or whether you always eat as a family?
I think it is reassuring that one of the past trainees returned to visit Mr Sakaki.
Mr Sakaki always looks very informal in his photographs -with a twinkle in his eye. Is Mr Sakaki's English good enough for you to have a conversation with?
I am enjoying your blog!
